Investment in Jobs and the Green Economy

What a day for the people of Pictou County!  The Province of Nova Scotia is investing 60 million dollars into the former TrentonWorks plant - creating hundreds of jobs and a new spirit of hope in  the community.

A partnership has been forged between the province of Nova Scotia and Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Ltd. (DSME).

DSME will establish a wind turbine tower and blade manufacturing facility at the former TrentonWorks site, creating hundreds of jobs. Read more

Nova Scotia at Vancouver 2010

Nova Scotia's presence at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics has enlivened visitors to Atlantic Canada House, ranked one of the three must-see Olympic pavilions by Vancouver Magazine and mentioned as the best provincial house in the Globe and Mail.

There are several Nova Scotia Acts performing at the Vancouver Olympics, including DRUM, Sloan, Grand Derangement, George Canyon, Zydeco and Blou. Cape Breton native Ashley MacIsaac performed at the Opening ceremonies with more than 60,000 people in attendance.Read more

Nova Scotia - On the Olympic Stage

Nova Scotia will be on the world stage Tuesday, Feb. 16th when Nova Scotians on both Canadian coasts take part in Nova Scotia Day celebrations.

Front and centre at the Games will be Nova Scotia’s Olympic athletes. Cole Harbour’s Sidney Crosby will play in his first Olympic hockey game against Norway on Nova Scotia Day, with Dartmouth’s Sarah Conrad competing in Ladies’ Halfpipe Snowboarding two days later.Read more

Actor-comedian Ron James and CBC Radio Q writer/producer Kathryn Borel Jr. (author of Corked) shared stories of their time studying in Nova Scotia at the launch of the Canada’s University Capital campaign in Toronto on Wednesday, Jan. 27. The afternoon event took place at One King West in downtown Toronto where an enthusiastic crowd of university alumni gathered to help spread the word that there’s good reason to consider Nova Scotia when planning a post-secondary education.Read more

Ottawa Chief of Police Vern White and Universite Sainte Anne professor Christine Igot appeared on /A\ Channel Ottawa Morning today to promote Nova Scotia as "Canada's University Capital." Their appearance ramped up the Ottawa launch of the interactive online campaign which proclaims that “Nova Scotia is Canada’s University Capital,” a bold claim backed by a strong reputation as a learning province.Read more

Oh, Christmas Tree

A 38-year tradition of gratitude and holiday cheer continued Dec 3. as a 14-meter Christmas tree from Nova Scotia took centre stage at the annual Tree Lighting ceremony in Boston.

The ceremony was televised to an estimated viewing audience of 300,000 on WCVB Boston Channel 5, an ABC affiliate channel available in Atlantic Canada on cable.

The Christmas tree is a gift to the City of Boston in recognition of the help provided in the aftermath of the Halifax Explosion on Dec. 6, 1917. Read more

NYC Appearance for NS Choir

A Nova Scotia singing group has been chosen to peform at the Lincoln Centre for the Performing Arts in New York City.

Bedford Singers, considered one of Halifax Regional Municipalities most long-standing and accomplished community choirs, has been asked to reprise the work by renowned contemporary Welsh composer Karl Jenkins by Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY).Read more

New Charter Member Sheepdoginc.ca in Toronto

Nova Scotia–based SheepDogInc.ca and partner Google are hosting an information session in Toronto on November 4 to introduce the cloud computing model to prospective clients.

The sesssion is scheduled just weeks after Canada's only Google Apps provider announced expansion plans with the support of a payroll rebate from the province. 

Nova Scotia Business Inc. and SheepDogInc.ca have signed an agreement worth up to 700-thousand dollars to create up to 60 jobs over the next five years.
