How does someone once acknowledged as a Top 50 CEO in Atlantic Canada- come to open a café in downtown Truro? Methodically. The Fair Trade Community Cafés are not regular coffee houses. Founder Ray Merriam, a long-time Truro councilor, has constructed two community-minded, environmentally conscious cafés.

Constructed with reclaimed, recycled building materials, pre-owned furnishings and equipment, the sustainable and environmentally conscious building practices demonstrated at the Fair Trade Community Café's two Truro locations demonstrate how to be green, reduce pollution and save thousands of pounds of material from going to the landfill. The awareness doesn't stop at the building either. Fair Trade Community Café serves healthy and nutritious food and offers a good cup of the best fresh Just Us! Fair Trade Coffee, supplied by the Wolfville coffee roasters.

Fair Trade Community Café also offers a place for the community to come together. It supports local organizations, singers, songwriters and artists by providing a venue where they can host events and showcase their talents.

Plans are in the works for more locations.
