"In the creative process I find a quiet calm, and see my creativity as a warm fire giving soul and heart its own mind."

Mary Louise is from Millbrook First Nation, although she now makes her home on Pender Island in British Columbia.

Two of her artworks belong to the permanent collection of the National Indian Art Centre in Hull, Quebec. She has been featured in the acclaimed NFB film Kwa'nu'te as well as the NFB series First Nations Circle Unbroken, and has participated in two Royal Commissions on the arts. Her most recent works in birchbark and copper hang in the offices of the Band Hall and the new Medical Centre of Millbrook First Nation.

Mary Louise also works in poetry and prose, and has been published in various anthologies. She is one of seven Mi’kmaq artists selected by the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games for the Aboriginal Art Program, in which art by more than 90 Aboriginal artists from across the country will grace the 2010 Winter Games venues.
