East Coast Music Awards - Cape Breton

Cape Breton will be a hub of musical buzz this weekend as Sydney hosts the annual East Coast Music Awards. The awards will be handed out March 7th at Centre 200.

The evening will honour the Island’s rich musical past. Grammy-winning artist Gordie Sampson will perform as part of a tribute to Scotty Turner, the evening’s recipient of the Dr. Helen Creighton Lifetime Achievement Award.

Fiddling sensation, Ashley MacIsaac, along with fellow Cape Breton musicians Chrissy Crowley, JP Cormier and Colin Grant Hilda Chiasson will honour the late Cape Breton fiddler Jerry Holland.

Both Holland and Turner passed away in 2009.

Shawn Wilkie has always been an entrepreneur at heart. By the age of thirteen, he was already running his own business, selling snacks and ice cream to fans at the local baseball field in Antigonish. Years later, when he returned to Nova Scotia after spending some time working and travelling abroad, Wilkie attended the Nova Scotia Community College Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management program. There, he met his future business partner. It wasn’t long before the idea for Student Computers was born, and the store itself was becoming a reality.
