Nova Scotia Icewine Festival

Nova Scotia's annual Icewine festival runs Feb 2-12

Nova Scotia winemakers and wine enthusiasts will celebrate this year’s Icewine harvest during the fifth annual Nova Scotia Icewine Festival taking place across the province from February 2 to 12, 2012.

“When we first started the festival, there was very little knowledge about Icewine in Nova Scotia,” says Janice Ruddock, managing director of the Winery Association of Nova Scotia (WANS). “Today marks the beginning of our fifth festival and we are thrilled with our line-up of over 40 events, as well as consumer response to the tastings, dinners and outdoor activities taking place this year.”

Originally created to offer awareness and education about harvesting, making and purchasing Icewine, the Icewine Festival has grown to much more in the last five years.

The festival has doubled in size to showcase over 40 Icewine-inspired events taking place across the province. Beginning with the Fire & Ice Gala in Kentville on February 2, the festival highlights not only Nova Scotia Icewine, but also local cuisine produced by some of the province’s finest chefs.

“Our winemakers and chefs are never happy with status quo, they’re always aiming to outdo last year’s events,” adds Ruddock. “This year will be no exception...from sleigh ride winery tours at Avondale Sky to Luckett Vineyards’ daring Icewine luge, the Nova Scotia Icewine Festival has an event, and wine, for every palate.”

Hosted by WANS, this year’s festival boasts a schedule of unique and truly Nova Scotian culinary adventures. For more information and a calendar of Nova Scotia Icewine Festival events, visit www.nsicewinefestival.ca.
