Nova Scotia Children and Symphony Produce Special Recording of O Canada

This spring, for three days, a group of children from schools around the province got together as Children’s Chorus of Nova Scotia. Most of them met for the first time, and in three days not only put on a beautiful concert of songs they learned in that brief time period, but they also did a recording of O Canada with Symphony Nova Scotia.

The beauty of this work, in two languages, warms the heart and reminds us how valuable a resource our children are. The CD they produced is being distributed to all the schools in the province, as the official O Canada for years to come!Read more

We're Home!

After a long long drive from Vancouver Island, B.C. we finally arrived in the Annapolis Valley on August 13th, 2011 with 4 of our children, the dog and 2 cats. It has taken us a little while to get everything sorted out such as registering the kids for school, finding work, unpacking a never ending pile of boxes and all the other things that come along with a long distance move.Read more

Can't Wait to make the Move!

My fiance is from NS, and just last summer, we made the cross-country trip to attend a wedding and visit with his family and friends. In the short amount of time we were there, I absolutely fell in love with NS! The people are friendly, the scenery breath taking and the kids and I had lots of fun searching for treasures along the beaches.Read more

We Moved From BC to Nova Scotia and Love It Here!

Our family made the decision to leave Vancouver Island for many reasons. Cost of living and housing, quality of life, good places to raise a family etc. We drove a 1972 little class c motorhome all the way across Canada pulling a little trailer and are now getting settled in Greenwood, in the Annapolis Valley. We're very happy with this decision and have found the people welcoming and friendly. We blog about the move and everyday life in Nova Scotia at humblebee-farm.blogspot.com and you're welcome to follow along as we get settled and observe life in this beautiful part of Canada.

7100 km from BC to Greenwood, Nova Scotia. We're Coming!

This is an update for those who are wondering how it's going for our "big move" to Nova Scotia. We're now 3 1/2 weeks away from leaving BC. We've found a lovely home to rent, church congregation and community to welcome us, and we've got leads on jobs too. Everything is coming together nicely. We've had lots of suggestions as to what places to stop and take our kids to visit as we drive across so it's going to be an adventure! And we are so excited to be moving finally.Read more

Coming Home Forever

I was a child when my parents came to Canada from the U.K. and never quite felt I belonged here. We lived in Montreal for two years and then Toronto for about 40, but when I first went to Halifax, I was smitten. It felt like home.

As a professional writer, I have been to many places and composed stories and articles about most of them; it was a media familiarity tour that took me to Wolfville in the summer of 2007. I went back that Thanksgiving, and spent time in Yarmouth and Cape Forchu. And back again at the end of October to settle on a place to live in Wolfville.Read more

7100 km to a place we can call Home.

For a long time we've contemplated a move to Nova Scotia from where we live on Vancouver Island. Now I know some of you are shaking your heads and telling us that we live somewhere beautiful and we absolutely agree. It's spectacular. But along with this beauty has come a rise in self-centeredness, hustle and bustle and rising property prices all too common to areas with a high number of retirees from the city. In our case Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto.Read more

Newly positioned, strategically evolved ... a rebirth professionally and personally.Read more

Go with the jet stream, not against it

My wife, Gina, and I recently relocated to Halifax from Calgary. I, an Alberta native, and my wife, a 6 year resident, had freshly exchanged vows and found ourselves at a culmination. Many might agree that marriage brings on that all-important “talk” after the cake is cut and the thank-you cards are sent – what is our next move? At the point our discussion took place, I did not fathom that “move” would eventually turn out to be quite so literal. An opportunity presented itself for my wife to transfer with her employer and relocate to Halifax.Read more

Newly arrived from the UK

I had been contemplating a move to Canada for many years, a thought that took root when I was in university and came to meet many wonderful Canadians on my travels. I spent a year studying in Florida, which set me on the path of wanting to live and work abroad, but there was something about Canada that sparked my interest and stayed with me.

In fact, several years later, by then happily married and a recent ‘dad’, I was so convinced that Canada was the right place for our family to be, that I started to apply for permanent residence before I had even visited the country!Read more

The third and final

I love new challenges.

In April 2009, I quit a well paying job in Ontario to move to Winnipeg, MB. When I arrived, I had no apartment, no job, knew very few people (less than 5), and literally had to start from scratch. Within a year, I made friends for life, found a really great job, and had a great apartment in the hippest part of the city.

But something wasn't quite right.Read more
